WITNESSING ABOUT CHRIST

Baca: 2 CORINTHIANS 4:1-15

Bacaan tahunan: Nehemiah 1-3

Paul often tells his life story when teaching. Not to boast about the worldly rewards he receives! Paul's intention is to witness the real work of Christ amidst the suffering he has to endure for the sake of the Gospel. Paul aims to prove the power of Christ that he experiences.

In a more modern era that tends to value worldly success, there is a danger for Christians if they get carried away. Namely, making wealth, positions, success, comfort, popularity, and instant miracles as a benchmark for God's blessings, as well as the basis of testimony. This can happen when there are two parties involved. First, the witness who unconsciously tends to seek admiration, validation of faith, and the temptation to give a 'sellable' testimony. While from the listener's side, there are some believers who are only interested in beneficial testimonies. They are less interested in testimonies about repentance, faithfulness in suffering, or obedience without instant results.

As a result, the true Gospel becomes blurred. Testimonies that should glorify Christ turn into a spiritual show-off and lose the power of the Holy Spirit. The focus shifts from the cross and grace to worldly outcomes. Instead of building the church spiritually, it forms shallow followers, not deeply rooted in faith. Nurturing a prosperity theology that is not in line with Jesus' teachings because testimonies turn into a platform for sharing quick formulas to receive miracles or blessings. --EBL/www.renunganharian.net

WITNESSING IS NOT ABOUT HOW GREAT WORLDLY BLESSINGS WE RECEIVE, BUT HOW REAL CHRIST LIVES WITHIN US.
