WITH SINCERE WILLINGNESS

Baca: MATTHEW 11:25-30

Bacaan tahunan: Ezekiel 28-30

The Lord said, "Learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart." The word "because" in this verse is translated from the Greek word, hoti. Besides meaning "because," hoti also means "that." So, the saying above also means, "Learn from Me that I am gentle and humble in heart." We are not only called to learn something from the Lord who is gentle and humble in heart, but we are called to be gentle and humble in heart (like the Lord). What does it mean?

Refusing, rebelling, at least in our hearts, happens when we bear obligations reluctantly. However, being gentle and humble in bearing obligations is a sign of sincere willingness. And that is what the Lord does. Wholeheartedly, even unto death, the Lord manifests His love for us. Therefore, "Learn from Me that I am gentle and humble in heart" is a call for us to emulate Christ: manifesting love with truly sincere willingness.

Sincere willingness makes our souls calm. Not because the struggle to manifest love makes life easier, but because sincere willingness makes us always aware of how the Lord has loved us in such a way that our lives manifest our heartfelt love as an expression of our gratitude for the great and unmatched love of the Lord.

Thus, following the Lord is a life of bearing the obligation of love. And the peace that the Lord promises is not a peace without a cross, but a peace of soul tranquility because we lead a meaningful life, even though the consequences may not be light.
