NO ROOM

Baca: LUKE 2:1-7

Bacaan tahunan: 2 Peter

Thousands of years ago, Jesus, our Lord, came into the world. He was born through the womb of a virgin named Mary. On the day He came, He found the reality that there was no room. Bethlehem, the city, was crowded with inhabitants. There was no available space in any inn so His swaddled self was laid by them in a manger.

We may wonder if the people in the city of Bethlehem knew Jesus was coming, then surely there would be room. If only they understood the baby to be born by Mary was the Lord, then surely they would provide a room at the best inn. Sadly, the event might not have occurred that way. For what happened in the past is reflected in the present. Now Jesus longs to enter our hearts. Yet, every time He looks inside, He finds the reality that there is no room. Our hearts are crowded by worldly matters. In the right corner filled with worries and in the left corner with anxieties. In the middle part filled with lust and desires to pursue pleasure. There is no space left so He is left standing at the door of our hearts.

Indeed, ignorance is not the sole reason for the absence of room! Lack of understanding is not the main cause of the unavailability of space for the Lord. We can know but are indifferent. We can understand but do not care. Today's reflection aims to awaken us to this painful reality. We cannot change the past, but we can improve the present. Let's remove unnecessary things from our hearts, then say to Jesus, "There is room for You, O Lord."

PREPARE A PLACE FOR THE LORD BY EMPTYING THE SPACE INSIDE OUR HEARTS SO THAT HE CAN ENTER INTO IT
