LIKE A MOTHER RAISING A CHILD

Baca: 1 THESSALONIANS 2:1-12

Bacaan tahunan: 1 Peter

Instead of receiving praise, a mother who has worked hard to wake up in the early morning to cook just reaps scorn from her child. 'Oh, Mother can only cook the same thing!' 'Oh, Mother's cooking is salty!' 'The vegetables are too mushy!' Nevertheless, the mother continues to devote herself to fulfill all her child's needs with patience and love.

The suffering experienced while serving in Philippi may have made Paul reluctant to serve in Thessalonica. However, he wanted to serve the Lord with pure motivation. He kept moving forward, never giving up. Paul likened himself to a mother raising and caring for her child. Not only sharing the Good News from God (the Gospel) but also willing to give himself entirely to help. Paul was willing to work day and night to meet his needs, so as not to be a burden to the congregation. All of this is based on the pure purpose of pleasing God's heart, not man's.

Every service demands sacrifice. Both material, thoughts, energy, time, and even feelings. All of this is certainly not new to be understood by every follower of the Lord. Like Paul, the demand for sacrifice in serving the Lord is not a reason to give up. Even though there may be things that make us want to withdraw from service, even make us despair. However, Paul's example for us is very clear: we need to behave like a mother in raising her child with full love. So that our testimony is not just a slogan or motto, but is real in action.
