SURPASSING HOPE

24 June 2026

Read: DEUTERONOMY 3:23-29

Bible in a year: Psalms 58-65

Many people claim to love the Lord the most. However, when they pray for something to God and the prayer has not been answered for a long time, they become disappointed with God. In fact, if God is truly loved the most, then God should be prioritized. The heart should desire God exceedingly, surpassing hope.

Moses is an example of someone who loves the Lord the most. After debating with God for quite some time, Moses agreed to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. He brought ten plagues from the Lord, and then the people were freed. Subsequently, Moses led the people towards Canaan, passing through the wilderness. The journey was not easy as the people complained multiple times. One day, out of frustration towards them, Moses disobeyed God's command. God told Moses that he would not enter Canaan (see Num. 20:2-13). Moses once pleaded for God's mercy, meaning he hoped to see the promised land flowing with milk and honey. God answered, "Enough! Do not speak to Me about this anymore," meaning the hope would not be fulfilled. It is recorded that after that, Moses continued to fulfill his duties well. He advised the people to remain faithful to God and prepared Joshua as his successor. Moses was not disappointed because he desired God, surpassing his hope.

Today's reflection invites us to self-correct together. Do we truly love the Lord the most, not just His blessings? If our words are not just empty talk, let us show proof. If we claim, 'I love the Lord the most,' let us rejoice, even though some of our prayer hopes have not been fulfilled yet. --LIN/www.renunganharian.net
IF INDEED GOD IS THE MOST ENCHANTING THEN THERE WILL BE NO FEELING OF DISAPPOINTMENT WHEN THERE IS AN UNFULFILLED HOPE.
