SPIRITUAL FATHER

Baca: JOB 1:1-5

Bacaan tahunan: Psalms 40-45

It is not uncommon for us to hear news about the misbehavior of children or teenagers around us. When investigated, it turns out that their behavior is caused by absent and irresponsible parents in educating and directing them. They think that what matters is already providing wealth and comfort to their children.

The piety of Job who lived in fear of God and shunned evil is very clear in this section, which is how Job treated his children. Job's children were still young, because of their father's wealth, their sons regularly held family feasts in turn and invited their three sisters. They did this because they were capable of doing so and it was part of maintaining relations within their family.

However, for Job, in the feasts of the young people there was a possibility that in their youth, they might fall into sin, although this is not mentioned in this section. Therefore, as a father, Job had a responsibility to always call his children, sanctify them, and offer burnt offerings the next day. He kept his children from sin and God's punishment.

The world today is losing many spiritual and responsible fathers for the spiritual needs of their children. And maybe we are also longing for a father figure like that, a father who guides us to know God and sets an example of living in fear of God. Let us pray that the Lord will bring many fathers who truly fear God who will help their children live for the Lord. --ANT/www.renunganharian.net
