Read: 1Timothy 2:1-7
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. (1Timothy 2:1-2)
Bible in a year: Job 38-39
When Paul wrote to Timothy, the Roman government in the hands of Nero, the emperor known for his cruelty. In those days, not a few followers of Christ who were slaughtered, burned, or used as beasts of prey. Nero even mengambinghitamkan them, when a fire wiping out the city of Rome. For the king who so Paul asked God's people pray (verse 2). How perasaankita if a church at that time?
Is Paul invites the congregation to pray for the government that they were moved to make good policies so that they no longer persecuted but may live in peace and quiet? It is interesting to notice how Paul brought the congregation to see what God wants in their prayers: God wants all people, including governments, rescued and acquire knowledge of the truth (verses 3-4). Obviously if the government really brought to know God, their life will surely change, and they lead the country can be calm and serene; church can live in righteousness and honor.
Today many people denounced and mocked the government, which is not perfect. As children of God, we are asked to pray for all people, including our government. Not just that there are wonders that make their policies in favor of our interests, but also that they know the truth and be saved. That is what pleases God. Let's take the time to do it today - ARS
