PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Baca: John 17:14-26

As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. (John 17:18)

Bacaan tahunan: Job 40-42

Martin Luther said that every person should have two Christian conversion. Repentance is the first to respond to the call of God to get out of the world into the church. The second is sent back into the world to bring the message and realize the kingdom of God.

Luther's words echoing the prayer of Jesus towards the end of his life. True that the followers of Jesus were called out of the darkness of the world become citizens of the kingdom of God. They are different from the world (v. 14, 16). However, these people are not directly taken away from the world (verse 15). They actually sent back into the world, living in the midst of the people (verse 18). Fellowship of believers or the church, called in Greek ekklesia, which literally means "called out". The believer is also called the salt of the earth (see Matthew 5). The world is not good and requires decaying salinity and the presence of salts, namely the followers of Jesus who meet the nature and whereabouts call.

When turning from sin and trust Jesus as Lord and Savior, we have experienced first conversion. However, have we also experienced a second conversion? How does our relationship with the world in which God placed us: work, social environment, large families, even those who have not believed? What can we do to make our presence was a messenger of good news of the kingdom of God and realize the "body" of Christ's presence there? - Joo
