RELYING ON THE LORD

Everyone has something to rely on: relied on for survival, overcoming problems, chasing dreams, etc. Trust can vary: strength, intelligence, connections, numbers, etc.

Prophet Jeremiah stated that the blessed are those who rely on the Lord (verse 7). However, he described that a life depending on the Lord is not a life devoid of difficulties and suffering. Those who rely on the Lord can also face "scorching heat", can be hit by "drought" (verse 8). So, what is it like to live depending on the Lord?

If we rely on the Lord, we become like a "tree planted by the water", always living close to the Lord, the River of Life. Like a tree that "spreads its roots by the river" (verse 8), we always seek and absorb the Clear Water, the word of truth, from the Lord, the River of Life, and struggle to live out His word.

Because we are close to the Lord, we are granted steadfastness, so that in any circumstance, we continue to live out the way of the Lord. We 'do not fear when the heat comes', 'do not worry in the year of drought' (verse 8). Indeed, we are not free from difficulties and suffering. However, the Lord gives us strength to endure it, so that even when facing scorching heat and dry seasons of life, our branches and leaves remain green and fresh (verse 8).

Therefore, even in times of hardship, a heart that relies on the Lord never ceases to sing, 'Father, You are truly good. Your love abounds in my life.'
