THE FAITHFUL GOD

Baca: RUTH 1:1-18

Bacaan tahunan: Revelation 20-22

In order to survive, fleeing to Moab might provide a better life for Naomi's family. Initially, everything went well. One of her sons married Ruth, and the other married Orpah. But not long after, a bitter event occurred. Naomi's husband and both sons died. In her grief, Naomi decided to return to Bethlehem. She advised her two daughters-in-law who wanted to follow her by saying, "No, my daughters, my life is much bitterer than yours, for the hand of the Lord has turned against me."

Naomi blamed herself for all the bitter events that had happened. Nothing was left, and the journey back home seemed so dark to her. However, unbeknownst to her, the Lord did not leave her. Even though Naomi regretted her wrong decision, the Lord never blamed her. Instead, in the place that Naomi considered wrong, the Lord brought Ruth into her life. A faithful daughter-in-law who accompanied and cared for Naomi in the most difficult situations.

The story of Naomi teaches us about God's faithfulness and presence to those who feel bitter about their lives. Like Naomi, we may blame ourselves for everything that happens, but God shows His presence to uplift our spirits. God is present to accompany Naomi through the faithful Ruth, and God is also present through those who support us. Our past decisions may lead us to bitter events, but it is in those places that we experience God's faithfulness and presence.
