Baca: 2 CORINTHIANS 10:1-11
Bacaan tahunan: Mark 8-9
A mother did not allow her child to pursue further studies in the field of priesthood. Her reason was that priests are always scrutinized by the congregation. 'I'm afraid my child will be treated badly. Not appreciated and always commented on. I'm worried that my child won't be strong enough.'
How many people are troubled by overthinking because of negative comments from others? Even spending time thinking about it repeatedly and becoming worried (rumination)? In the end, they become anxious, stressed, lose productivity because it's hard to focus, lose self-confidence, and even experience depression because they are trapped in negative thoughts without a solution.
Paul faced opposition from false apostles in Corinth. Biases, jealousy, and attempts to bring him down were received there. One of the ways Paul took to deal with the temptation was by managing his own thoughts, to stay in line with the will of Christ.
Paul realized that the mind is a battlefield, where we struggle with our own anxieties. This includes, when hearing negative views from others even though we intend to do God's will in love and truth. How do we react to the possibility like this? Are we trying to break the schemes and pride that hinder us from knowing God by conquering them to Christ? Or on the contrary, are we trapped in endless overthinking and rumination that destroys?
