Baca: 1 SAMUEL 17:12-39
Bacaan tahunan: Mark 10-11
Luka Dončić, a professional basketball player in the NBA, was once dubbed as "The Angry One" because of his temperamental nature. However, on one occasion, Dončić proved that he could turn his anger into something positive. Instead of retaliating against every taunt or rude treatment towards him, Dončić responded by showing his best performance on the court. Point after point was scored by Dončić, leading his team to victory over their opponents.
The fact of life shows that anger does not only have one way out in the form of destructive actions. Some people are able to see another way out, then successfully turn their anger into motivation to take positive actions, even actions that lead to success. This perspective seems to be possessed by young David, who was sent by his father that day to check on his brothers on the battlefield. Upon hearing the mockery from Goliath, David's anger flared up because of the Philistine giant's insult. The rest of the story we know how Jesse's son defeated Goliath with just one sling shot (1 Samuel 17:48-50).
We indeed need to be careful when anger starts to flare up. There are only two choices, to control or be controlled by that anger. However, a wise person will not only be able to control themselves, but can see the positive outlet of that anger, then take actions that can lead them to a great victory, as David once experienced with the help of God.
