Baca: 2 SAMUEL 15:1-12
Bacaan tahunan: Mark 6-7
Once I asked my counseling teacher about the words I conveyed to my client. Can I say it like that? Instead of answering whether it was allowed or not, my teacher instead asked me back, 'Whose interest is it for?' Still confused with his question, I asked the same thing again. He repeated the same question. After that, I finally understood, apparently my teacher wanted to make me realize that I was speaking for my own interests.
The Bible tells about Absalom as if he was doing good for the people of Israel who were in a legal dispute. At that time, Absalom intercepted everyone who wanted to bring their case to the king to ask for justice. After Absalom successfully provoked the cases they were facing, he gave the impression as if the king did not care. Then he fantasized that he would be fair if he became the judge. Armed with a perfect face and physique as well as behavior that seemed polite and humble, he captivated the hearts of the people of Israel. Whereas he was planning a coup against his own father, David. His words and actions were not for the people's interests.
As believers, we must examine ourselves. Are we sincerely doing everything for the good of others and for the Lord? Whose interest are we doing what we are doing for? One day, the sincerity of our hearts and our goodness will be tested. Those who are sincere will be loved by the Lord and others.
