Baca: MATTHEW 4:18-22
Bacaan tahunan: Ezekiel 46-48
One cannot simply leave their job if there isn't something extremely important. Especially if the job provides income for their livelihood. Then God seems to bless their work in such a way that they can enjoy it with their family. That's why people often hesitate and sometimes delay the decision to change jobs. Even if the offer for a new job is more comfortable and has a bigger income.
The story above is different from Simon Peter and Andrew, as well as James and John. At that time, the Lord asked Peter to cast the net into deeper waters. When the net was cast, so many fish were caught. So many that Peter had to ask his friends for help. Because of that spectacular miracle, Peter immediately realized his sinfulness and asked the Lord to depart from him. However, the Lord invited him to follow Him to become a fisher of men.
Peter, Andrew, James, and John immediately answered His call. At that moment, they immediately left their jobs and also their families. They felt that Jesus was far more precious than all their possessions.
Surely we have also left something valuable when following Christ. But, have we left everything entirely? Or do we still hold onto our old lives? Are we willing to give up everything we enjoy to follow the Lord for our entire lives?
FOLLOWING THE LORD IS FAR MORE VALUABLE THAN CONTINUING TO ENJOY OUR OLD LIFE
