Baca: PSALM 112:1-9
Bacaan tahunan: Job 5-7
We live in an era where bad news is just a touch away. The term doomscrolling - the habit of constantly reading negative news on social media - has become a tiring mental phenomenon. We worry about economic stability, health, and the future of our families. In the midst of this information storm, we often ask, "Is there a way to stay calm when the world is in chaos?"
Psalm 112 helps us to see strength in the midst of uncertainty. How can mortal and sinful humans have such strength? The key is in the first verse, "Blessed is the man who fears the Lord." The righteous in Psalm 112 are not just those who perform religious duties, but those who "fall in love" with God's character. When we cling to the eternal God, His attributes begin to rub off on us. Psalm 112 is a perfect portrait of Jesus Christ. He is the only Man who fears the Lord perfectly. He is the one who gives all His heavenly wealth and becomes poor for us (v. 9). On the cross, Jesus faced the "worst news" so that today we no longer need to fear any bad news in this world. We no longer strive to be righteous to be accepted by God, but we live righteously because we have been accepted in Christ.
The world may continue to present bad news. Inflation, disasters, conflicts, and difficulties may come one after another. However, Psalm 112 invites us to stop worrying without hope and start reflecting the goodness of God. Live in such a way that when people see our peace and generosity, they no longer see us, but see the Lord we worship. --DSK/www.renunganharian.net
