Kis 12:1 Kira-kira pada waktu itu raja Herodes mulai bertindak dengan keras terhadap beberapa orang dari jemaat.
Kis 12:2 Ia menyuruh membunuh Yakobus, saudara Yohanes, dengan pedang.
Kis 12:3 Ketika ia melihat, bahwa hal itu menyenangkan hati orang Yahudi, ia melanjutkan perbuatannya itu dan menyuruh menahan Petrus. Waktu itu hari raya Roti Tidak Beragi.
Kis 12:4 Setelah Petrus ditangkap, Herodes menyuruh memenjarakannya di bawah penjagaan empat regu, masing-masing terdiri dari empat prajurit. Maksudnya ialah, supaya sehabis Paskah ia menghadapkannya ke depan orang banyak.
Kis 12:5 Demikianlah Petrus ditahan di dalam penjara. Tetapi jemaat dengan tekun mendoakannya kepada Allah.
Kis 12:6 Pada malam sebelum Herodes hendak menghadapkannya kepada orang banyak, Petrus tidur di antara dua orang prajurit, terbelenggu dengan dua rantai. Selain itu prajurit-prajurit pengawal sedang berkawal di muka pintu.
Kis 12:7 Tiba-tiba berdirilah seorang malaikat Tuhan dekat Petrus dan cahaya bersinar dalam ruang itu. Malaikat itu menepuk Petrus untuk membangunkannya, katanya: "Bangunlah segera!" Maka gugurlah rantai itu dari tangan Petrus.
Kis 12:8 Lalu kata malaikat itu kepadanya: "Ikatlah pinggangmu dan kenakanlah sepatumu!" Iapun berbuat demikian. Lalu malaikat itu berkata kepadanya: "Kenakanlah jubahmu dan ikutlah aku!"
Kis 12:9 Lalu ia mengikuti malaikat itu ke luar dan ia tidak tahu, bahwa apa yang dilakukan malaikat itu sungguh-sungguh terjadi, sangkanya ia melihat suatu penglihatan.
Kis 12:10 Setelah mereka melalui tempat kawal pertama dan tempat kawal kedua, sampailah mereka ke pintu gerbang besi yang menuju ke kota. Pintu itu terbuka dengan sendirinya bagi mereka. Sesudah tiba di luar, mereka berjalan sampai ke ujung jalan, dan tiba-tiba malaikat itu meninggalkan dia.
Kis 12:11 Dan setelah sadar akan dirinya, Petrus berkata: "Sekarang tahulah aku benar-benar bahwa Tuhan telah menyuruh malaikat-Nya dan menyelamatkan aku dari tangan Herodes dan dari segala sesuatu yang diharapkan orang Yahudi."
Kis 12:12 Dan setelah berpikir sebentar, pergilah ia ke rumah Maria, ibu Yohanes yang disebut juga Markus. Di situ banyak orang berkumpul dan berdoa.
Kis 12:13 Dan ketika ia mengetuk pintu gerbang, datanglah seorang hamba perempuan bernama Rode untuk mengetahui siapa yang mengetuk itu.
Kis 12:14 Ia terus mengenal suara Petrus, tetapi karena girangnya ia tidak membuka pintu gerbang itu dan segera masuk ke dalam untuk memberitahukan, bahwa Petrus ada di depan pintu gerbang.
Kis 12:15 Kata mereka kepada perempuan itu: "Engkau mengigau." Akan tetapi ia tetap mengatakan, bahwa benar-benar demikian. Kata mereka: "Itu malaikatnya."
Kis 12:16 Tetapi Petrus terus-menerus mengetuk dan ketika mereka membuka pintu dan melihat dia, mereka tercengang-cengang.
Kis 12:17 Tetapi Petrus memberi isyarat dengan tangannya, supaya mereka diam, lalu ia menceriterakan bagaimana Tuhan menuntunnya ke luar dari penjara. Katanya: "Beritahukanlah hal ini kepada Yakobus dan saudara-saudara kita." Lalu ia keluar dan pergi ke tempat lain.
Kis 12:18 Pada keesokan harinya gemparlah prajurit-prajurit itu. Mereka bertanya-tanya apakah yang telah terjadi dengan Petrus.
Kis 12:19 Herodes menyuruh mencari Petrus, tetapi ia tidak ditemukan. Lalu Herodes menyuruh memeriksa pengawal-pengawal itu dan membunuh mereka. Kemudian ia berangkat dari Yudea ke Kaisarea dan tinggal di situ.
Herodes mati
Kis 12:20 Herodes sangat marah terhadap orang Tirus dan Sidon. Atas persetujuan bersama mereka pergi menghadap dia. Mereka berhasil membujuk Blastus, pegawai istana raja, ke pihak mereka, lalu mereka memohonkan perdamaian, karena negeri mereka beroleh bahan makanan dari wilayah raja.
Kis 12:21 Dan pada suatu hari yang ditentukan, Herodes mengenakan pakaian kerajaan, lalu duduk di atas takhta dan berpidato kepada mereka.
Kis 12:22 Dan rakyatnya bersorak membalasnya: "Ini suara allah dan bukan suara manusia!"
Kis 12:23 Dan seketika itu juga ia ditampar malaikat Tuhan karena ia tidak memberi hormat kepada Allah; ia mati dimakan cacing-cacing.
Barnabas dan Saulus diutus
Kis 12:24 Maka firman Tuhan makin tersebar dan makin banyak didengar orang.
Kis 12:25 Barnabas dan Saulus kembali dari Yerusalem, setelah mereka menyelesaikan tugas pelayanan mereka. Mereka membawa Yohanes, yang disebut juga Markus.
Act 12:1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.
Act 12:2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
Act 12:3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)
Act 12:4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
Act 12:5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
Act 12:6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
Act 12:7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.
Act 12:8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
Act 12:9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.
Act 12:10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.
Act 12:11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the LORD hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
Act 12:12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.
Act 12:13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.
Act 12:14 And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.
Act 12:15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.
Act 12:16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.
Act 12:17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
Act 12:18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.
Act 12:19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and there abode.
Act 12:20 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.
Act 12:21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
Act 12:22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
Act 12:23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
Act 12:24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.
Act 12:25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.
