Baca: GENESIS 29:31-30:24
Bacaan tahunan: Matthew 15-17
Leah, Laban's daughter, had a miserable life. Because in appearance she was inferior to Rachel (Genesis 29:17). Jacob loved Rachel so much that he was willing to work for Laban for free for 14 years to get Rachel. Leah indeed became Jacob's wife because of Laban's deceit, but Jacob never truly loved her.
God noticed Leah's pain of not being loved by Jacob by enabling her to conceive and give birth to six sons and one daughter. Notice Leah's words every time she gave birth, Leah thanked the Lord. God saw her misery (verse 32), God heard that she was not loved (verse 33), this time my husband will be more attached to me (verse 34), this time I will give thanks to the Lord (verse 35), God has given me my wages (verse 18), God has given me a beautiful gift (verse 20). What about Rachel? God also loved Rachel, by opening her womb so she gave birth to a son named Joseph (verses 22-24), and in another story she gave birth to Benjamin (Genesis 35:18). The Bible records in detail the births of Jacob's children, to show that He always pays attention to our lives.
We cannot reject it if someone does not want to love us, we cannot reject being born with less beautiful looks or certain physical deficiencies. Reflecting on Leah's story, God proves that He loves us in His own way, everyone has their own blessings. Let us always be thankful because God always loves us and difficulties faced with gratitude will bring blessings.
