THERE WE HEAR

Baca: Philippians 2:1-11

Bacaan tahunan: 2 Samuel 4-7

Because of sins, we are all dominated by destruction. We are unable to free ourselves. There is only one way that allows us to be saved, that is if the Lord is willing to come down to save us. And, that's what the Lord did: Christ, the Most High God, emptied Himself, stripped off His glory, humbled Himself to become a human to save us.

Christ's act of emptying Himself shows us that only the high can come down for the low, only the strong can yield to the weak. Christ's work also reminds us that only those who can walk fast can wait; only those who are free can bind themselves.

What does all that mean for us?

Around us, many people live in poverty below, powerless and helpless, who can only crawl slowly, who are bound by various chains. In Christ who emptied Himself, we hear an invitation for anyone in high places to come down for those in poverty below, for the strong to willingly yield to the weak, for those who can run fast to be willing to wait for those who can only crawl slowly, for those who are free to bind themselves to moral obligations for fellow human beings bound by various chains.

Looking at Christ who emptied Himself, are we moved to show compassion to those who deserve compassion? The Lord hears the confession we say in our hearts. --EE/www.renunganharian.net
