Bacaan tahunan: Leviticus 14-15
When reading the Bible or listening to a sermon, sometimes I find it difficult to understand what I am reading or hearing. Then I reread it, of course more carefully. Sometimes I have to open a dictionary, or read interpretations or explanations from others. If possible, I find time to ask the preacher. The goal is for me to truly understand the meaning of what I read or hear. However, it turns out that understanding alone is not enough. It must be accompanied by actions that are in accordance with what the Lord commands.
After the Lord Jesus delivered various parables, the chief priests and the Pharisees finally understood His intentions. He was comparing them to the farmers who leased a vineyard, but refused to pay the harvest that belonged to the owner. They were the ones being criticized and rebuked for being unfaithful to the Lord, but instead feeling righteous themselves. They will receive punishment from God. Yes, they truly understood it. However, they did not like the message. They even tried to capture and kill the Lord Jesus.
Indeed, there are often parts of God's word that are very challenging for us, not because we do not understand them. But because it does not align with our desires. We do not like to be rebuked, criticized, or corrected. We feel slapped or exposed. Our sins are revealed. At that time, understanding alone is not enough. We should be willing to change, willing to humble ourselves and obey the Lord. That is the best step we should take. --HT/www.renunganharian.net
TRULY UNDERSTANDING GOD'S WORD SHOULD BE FOLLOWED BY A WILLINGNESS TO ACT IN OBEDIENCE.
