Baca: Psalm 42
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. (Psalm 42:5,11)
Bacaan tahunan: Exodus 22-24
In a variety of disasters that befell the country tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, landslides, floods, sinking ships, aircraft accidents, etc., we often encounter a variety of poignant stories of those affected. Stories about people who can continue to survive in a tough situation and unpleasant, people are thankful for the escape from death. For them, there is every reason to be grateful.
Psalm 42 provides an overview of God's people unrest when disposed in a foreign country. Not an easy situation. For seventy years they are no longer able to worship in the temple. Nostalgia of the past makes the heart sore added (verses 5, 7). Very nostalgic feel to be back to worship in Jerusalem like a deer longing of water (paragraph 2). Even the call came out as if the Lord forget His people (verse 10). However, the psalmist is not immersed in memories of the past. He directs himself looking to the future; hope to God (verses 6, 12). He has a clear belief that the situation was so heavy, God was at work. So, he still can say, "... I will give thanks again to him" that he had known as a Personal Attendant and God.
There were times in which our awareness of His presence succor slack because of soluble problems, confusion, and uncertain situations. In such circumstances, ask for His help, so that we can always see it and appreciate what is there. Because, in his presence, there is every reason to be grateful. - JTI
