Baca: ESTHER 5:9-14
Bacaan tahunan: Luke 17-18
Haman became the highest official in the kingdom of Persia. He was the king's trusted man. The whole palace honored him, as shown by kneeling and bowing before him. Proudly, Haman told this to his family and friends. However, there was one person who refused to bow before him, namely Mordecai. All the greatness and glory he had seemed to vanish every time he saw that Jewish man. He then devised an evil plan, not only to destroy Mordecai but also all the Jews in the kingdom.
Haman was a person with inner issues. His happiness depended on other people's attitudes. His pride lay in material possessions, positions, and how people viewed and treated him. When his desires clashed with reality, his world seemed to crumble. This crazy respect attitude eventually brought destruction upon him and his family.
As followers of Christ, we should have a true self-image. We are valuable individuals, redeemed and saved by Him. Our self-worth is not based on material things or how others perceive us. Because God has declared that we are truly valuable to Him. We are His children. It is not our achievement, but solely His grace. Therefore, we should be grateful by living a life that pleases Him. We should also continue to learn to regard others as valuable and respectable individuals. This attitude will evoke respect from others towards us.
