ALSO JUDAS' FEET

Baca: JOHN 13:1-20

Bacaan tahunan: Judges 16-18

Betrayal is a very cruel act. Jesus knew that one of His disciples named Judas Iscariot would betray and sell Him to the chief priests for thirty pieces of silver (see Matt. 26:14-16). In this way, He was later crucified.

On the night before He was handed over, Jesus ate with His disciples. Suddenly He got up and took off His robe. He took a piece of linen cloth and tied it around His waist. He poured water into a basin and began to wash the feet of His disciples, one by one (vv. 4-5). He dried their wet feet with the linen cloth tied around His waist. After that, He put on His clothes and returned to His place (v. 12). Now the feet of Simon Peter, the feet of John, the feet of James, and the feet of the other nine disciples were clean. Jesus washed all their feet, including Judas'. Through this action, it is clearly revealed that Jesus loves all His disciples, including Judas. He showed kindness, even to the betrayer.

Judas' feet, which are also clean, bring awe and relief to our hearts. In fact, we often betray Him too! We often choose to follow the desires of the world rather than the will of God. Yet, Jesus still loves us. He still shows kindness by always accompanying, protecting, and blessing our lives. Judas' feet, which are also clean, remind us of the actions we should take. We must not harbor hatred towards those who have betrayed us, in the sense of making mistakes against us. Let us forgive them. Let us love by continuing to do good to them. --LIN/www.renunganharian.net

JESUS LOVES EVERYONE WITHOUT DISTINCTION SO WE SHOULD ACT ACCORDINGLY.
