Read: JOHN 15:1-8
Bible in a year: Nehemiah 10-11
Most people are willing to struggle hard to pursue comfort. Unfortunately, comfort tends to make people stop growing. When people feel comfortable, they become reluctant to struggle again, to change again. Whereas such a pattern is not good for a healthy spiritual life. For the Bible consistently shows that the life of believers is a process of continuous growth and change towards spiritual maturity and likeness to Christ.
Sometimes people think that living in Christ is the same as living in the comfort zone. However, John 15 actually shows that abiding in Christ requires growth and fruit, a process that must go through 'pruning'. This pruning can be interpreted as a process of purification and discipline from the Lord. Cleansing from unnecessary things (bad habits, bodily desires, toxic relationships, or wrong priorities in life). This process is what makes us grow, marked by changes towards likeness to Christ.
Thus, the reluctance to leave the comfort zone is actually a sign that we are leading ourselves towards spiritual death. For everything that lives will always be marked by growth and change. Just as seeds grow into trees, babies grow into adults, so should our spiritual life. Rejecting change means rejecting the work of the Holy Spirit and making us separated from the power, love, and purposes of God. --EBL/www.renunganharian.net
