ESCAPED

Baca: ACTS 23:12-22

Bacaan tahunan: Nehemiah 8-9

"Escaped" means to slip away, not hit, or miss. Some are said with disappointment because they have tried so hard, but failed. However, some others feel relieved because they are spared from something unpleasant, like what happened to Paul that day.

A number of Jews conspired with the intention of killing Paul. The intention was firm, because it was accompanied by an oath not to eat or drink until Paul's life disappeared. Furthermore, the conspirators, more than forty in number, went to the chief priests and elders. They explained the intention, as well as the scenario to carry it out. Everything seemed well-prepared, Paul was sure to be killed. However, Paul's nephew, his sister's son, heard about it and told him. Immediately, Paul asked one of the officers to bring the young man to the battalion commander to report the matter. Based on the report, he was able to be evacuated in advance (verse 23-24). Paul escaped from death!

Not a single event in this life is accidental. If Paul managed to escape, it is clearly because the hand of the Lord delivered him. Our current situation is no less frightening than Paul's. The danger of death threatens everywhere. When driving or walking outside, there is a possibility of accidents or being the target of someone else's evil intentions (assault, shooting, etc.). Taking refuge in the house does not guarantee safety because robbers may break in or suddenly an earthquake strikes. However, we do not need to wallow in anxiety. The reason is, the hand of the Lord is always at work. Let us take refuge in Him, for He is able to deliver us from all dangers. --LIN/www.renunganharian.net
