Read: PSALM 23
Bible in a year: 1 Kings 18-20
In a church service, the Pastor shouted, "God is good!", then the congregation responded, "All the time!" Very united! The Pastor and the congregation agreed that God is good forever. Unfortunately, unity often doesn't last long. When life is hit by difficulties, hearts begin to doubt the truth of God's goodness for that moment. Opinions then change. God is good, but not forever, only sometimes.
David declared that goodness and faithful love will follow him all the days of his life (v. 6a). Similar to the opinion "God is good forever". Even though David's life was not smooth. There were many difficulties, such as fleeing from King Saul and the coup by his son Absalom. David himself did not deny that fact by mentioning "the darkest valley" and "enemies" (v. 4a-5a). However, David did not change his statement about God. "All the days of my life" was not replaced with "half of my life", "forever" was not changed to "sometimes". The reason is, David understood that there was a purpose when God allowed difficulties to happen. Difficulties made him stronger. David also saw difficulties as God's goodness so he gave thanks, saying, "Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle" (Psalm 144:1).
God works in all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). "All things" includes the difficulties that He allows to come. Realize that there is a purpose of God behind it that benefits us. So, let's not change our opinion about God! Even though we are currently experiencing difficulties, keep saying, "God is good forever." --LIN/www.renunganharian.net
IT'S NOT SOMETIMES THAT GOD DECLARES HIS GOODNESS, BUT FOREVER, THROUGHOUT OUR LIFETIME.
