RIGHTEOUSNESS AND SUFFERING

Read: PSALM 69

Bible in a year: Joshua 12-15

Even though living righteously, David experienced pressures and difficulties that almost made him despair. His suffering was not only physical or emotional, but also social. David faced many challenges from people. Many people were against him without clear reasons. Perhaps out of jealousy, considering him as a threat, or due to political intrigues.

Righteousness does not guarantee freedom from suffering, often it invites resistance. Yes, living righteously does not mean living easily. True righteousness is often tested through pressures and suffering. Even the challenges faced by David came from those closest to him. He was rejected by his own brothers, mocked by his own people.

David was deeply hurt, but did not find comfort from people. Therefore, David cried out to the Lord, pleading for His mercy. David entrusted the vengeance against his enemies to the Lord. David also committed to continue honoring the Lord in the midst of his suffering. Because he believed that the Lord hears the cries of the poor and does not reject those who seek Him. As a result, David's suffering became a blessing that strengthens millions of people until now (including us) through his Psalms.

If the Lord allows suffering to happen, there is no need to ask 'why'. Hasn't the Bible repeatedly affirmed that the righteous will face difficulties? The most important thing is to always hold on to the Lord in all circumstances. Because for believers, suffering is just a path to glory. --EBL/www.renunganharian.net

WHEN WE HOLD FAST TO THE LORD OUR SUFFERING IS USED BY HIM AS A STRENGTHENING TESTIMONY.
