Read: DANIEL 1
Bible in a year: Deuteronomy 8-10
Commitment to God is not just about words, but real actions. It is tested when no one is watching, when pressures come, and when our decisions have consequences. Yet, God faithfully sustains those who are faithful to Him.
At a young age, Daniel and his friends were taken to the palace of Babylon to be educated according to a foreign culture and away from their roots of faith. They were taken there because the Kingdom of Judah was defeated by Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. However, amidst the luxury of the palace and the pressure to assimilate, Daniel made an important decision: he resolved in his heart not to defile himself with the king's food. It was not just about the food, but about a heart that refused to surrender to a world system that contradicts God. Daniel's commitment reflects the integrity of a child of God who is not easily swayed. He did not wait for the ideal situation to obey. He did not make excuses because he was young or far from home. He chose to be faithful in the midst of challenges, even if it meant risking his comfort or his life. Commitment like this does not suddenly appear, but is born from a heart that has already known and loved God.
We also live in an age where the values of faith are often blurred by the offers of the world. Temptations to compromise come through entertainment, relationships, work, and even personal ambitions. However, like Daniel, we are called to be resolute in making daily decisions to live holy and pleasing before God. --DSK/www.renunganharian.net
