Read: 2 KINGS 6:8-23
Bible in a year: Exodus 25-27
All human beings in this world face struggles, including us as children of God. Struggles are always unpleasant in nature. It is natural for us to feel distressed when a struggle arises. However, we can still rejoice if we understand the right way to view it.
King Aram was furious when he found out that his tactics against the people of Israel always failed. His servants told him that it was the work of Elisha, the prophet in Israel. Immediately, the king ordered his men to capture Elisha, who was known to be in Dothan. He sent horses, chariots, and a large army to surround the city. The servant who first saw them panicked. Elisha said to him, "Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them" (verse 16). The words of the Prophet Elisha to his servant tell us the right way to view struggles. Not with fear, but with courage. Not with doubt, but with faith. Our minds do not imagine horror, but an enjoyable adventure with the Lord. Our feelings are not in turmoil, but in peace. Our bodies are not weak, but standing strong. Our hands and feet do not tremble, but are eager because we believe that victory will soon be seen.
Is there a struggle affecting our lives right now? If yes, use the right way to view it, do not be mistaken! Viewing struggles in the right way does not mean we are acting strong. It is said that after Elisha prayed, the servant's eyes were opened and he saw the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha (verse 17). This means that indeed the struggle is nothing compared to God's presence with us. If God is on our side, then no matter how many or how big the struggles are, we can certainly face them. --LIN/www.renunganharian.net
