Baca: 1 CHRONICLES 29:10-19
Bacaan tahunan: Exodus 22-24
As preparation for the construction of the Holy Temple, David collected a vast amount of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, and various precious stones. It is also mentioned that David willingly offered his personal wealth. At least, David offered more than 100 tons of the finest gold and approximately 240 tons of pure silver (1 Chronicles 29:4, NKJV).
Nevertheless, before God, with humility, David admitted that he and his people could not give anything to the Lord. Because everything he offered was a gift from the Lord, belonging to the Lord alone. He realized that humans are only strangers and sojourners on earth and everything is temporary. David also prayed with thanksgiving and surrender to the Lord. David praised the Lord as the source of all power, glory, victory, and strength. The heavens and the earth belong to the Lord, as well as the kingdom and authority. David acknowledged that wealth and glory in him are from the Lord.
David's attitude emphasizing the importance of sincerity and loyalty in worshiping the Lord is an inspiration for us, to acknowledge that everything we have is a gift from the Lord, belonging to the Lord alone. Therefore, we should use all of it to serve the Lord. No matter how big our offering is, praise and acknowledgment are only fitting for the Lord. Also, we should not make offerings as bait to lure blessings, in order to receive multiple folds. --EBL/www.renunganharian.net
