Read: MATTHEW 1:1-17
Bible in a year: Titus, Philemon
Observing the stories in the Bible, I found the fact that God often uses people who are "not esteemed" by the world to fulfill His plans on earth. Take a look at the genealogy of Jesus Christ written by Matthew, at least we can see two names that will be recorded in the history of Jesus' birth forever.
The first name is Rahab. From various historical information, the name Rahab refers to a prostitute who hid Joshua while spying on Canaan. This woman was justified because of her actions at that time, and was honored with the appearance of the name Rahab in the genealogy of Jesus' birth. The second name refers to Bathsheba. Although her name is not explicitly mentioned, there is a mention that Solomon was born from the wife of Uriah. It seems that Matthew wanted the readers to investigate the connection between Solomon, David, Uriah, whose story is written in the book of 2 Samuel. We know the wicked plan of David against Uriah, but by the grace of God, the figure of Bathsheba was also "involved" in God's great plan for the birth of Jesus, who had to be born from the lineage of David.
As a Sovereign Person, God freely can use anyone as a tool of His glory. The grace of God works beyond the failures and limitations of human life so that those who are considered lowly or rejected by the world can still be used by Him to fulfill His plans on earth. Isn't this good news for us?
