WHAT IS MY REWARD?

Read: 1 CORINTHIANS 9:1-19

Bible in a year: Romans 8-10

My heart was touched when I heard the confession of a servant of God who decided to continue serving the Lord in remote areas. This servant of God, along with his wife and two children, has faithfully shepherded a humble congregation of no more than twenty people for years. To survive, he utilizes a small plot of land to plant vegetables as well as the offerings of the congregation in the form of agricultural produce every week. Several times he was offered a position in the city, with promises of a more decent livelihood and various facilities, but he always refused. For him, there is no greater joy than holding fast to his initial commitment to faithfully serve the souls in the remote area even without receiving material rewards.

Apostle Paul used himself as an example of the principle of self-denial in serving the Lord. As an apostle, he indeed had the right to receive wages for his ministry. However, he was committed to relinquishing that right so as not to limit his ministry and hinder the progress of the Gospel. Apostle Paul established this principle with sincerity and not seeking sympathy from others. Sincerely, he said, "My reward is that I may preach the Gospel without charge, and that I do not use my right as a preacher of the Gospel."

It is truly delightful to find out that there are still people who do not base their service on the profit or wages they can gain. For them, being entrusted by God to serve is an invaluable reward. What about us?

WILL WE CONTINUE TO SERVE THE WORK OF THE LORD WITH JOY EVEN IF WE DO NOT RECEIVE ANY REWARD?
