YONATHAN'S COMEBACK

Read: 1 SAMUEL 14:1-23

Bible in a year: Acts 16-17

Remontada is a term in Spanish which means a comeback, often used in sports, especially in football. A team that was initially behind, even believed to be losing, but managed to turn the situation around and become the winner, then a comeback is happening there. Remontada depicts the spirit of struggle, resilience, and the belief that miracles are still possible for any team that refuses to give up until the end of the match.

Reflecting on the story of Jonathan and his armor-bearer's daring act of approaching the enemy's headquarters alone, we can see that God made a comeback through them. That day Israel had just been defeated by the Philistines, which began with Saul's disobedience. They were so oppressed by the enemy that none of them had a sword or spear in hand during that battle (1 Samuel 13:17-22). Fortunately, Jonathan as the crown prince refused to surrender. They entered the enemy's territory, then fought them believing in God's presence. The actions of Jonathan and his armor-bearer initiated the resistance of God's chosen people, bringing terror to the enemy.

The spirit of comeback indeed needs to be ignited in today's life, where difficulties and challenges often make people think of giving up. Especially when we believe that God covers our lives, no matter how small the chances or hopes are, a comeback can also happen in our lives. Believe it!
