WOMEN WITH ISSUES

Read: MATTHEW 1:1-17

Bible in a year: Mark 12-13

When choosing a leader of a country, we certainly want the best. Everything, from the general to the detailed things, will be thoroughly examined. We want to know their daily habits, leadership style, abilities, and track record. Not only that. We also want to know who their parents are, their lineage, and where they come from. We don't want any flaws, even though sometimes we have to compromise with one or two weaknesses.

It's different with God's choice. Jesus' ancestors were full of people with issues. They were not perfect. Interestingly, Matthew specifically mentions some women's names. There's Rahab, Ruth, and also Uriah's wife. We know Rahab was a prostitute from Jericho. Ruth was better, because she was loyal to Naomi, her mother-in-law, and worshipped the God of Israel. However, Ruth was a Moabite woman. Also interesting is Bathsheba, mentioned as Uriah's wife, not David's wife. Even though David is also mentioned as one of Jesus' ancestors. This also reminds readers of David's heinous sin.

In the eyes of the Lord, no one is perfect except His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, He still chooses those who are flawed and have many weaknesses. Even sinful women are valued by Him. Therefore, believers should be confident. The Lord has chosen us as His children. The Lord makes us able to stand upright before people.

GOD'S CHOICE IS NOT ON PERFECT PEOPLE. BUT ON THOSE WHO ARE FLAWED AND WEAK LIKE US WHO ARE WILLING TO BE USED BY HIM.
