Doctor Nathan Barlow opted to serve in Ethiopia for more than sixty years. He dedicated his life to helping the people with mossy foot in the area of a former volcano. They are experiencing swelling and ulcers in the legs and thighs, and easy susceptible to various infections. Like people with leprosy, these people are isolated from the guidelines for the community. Nathan Barlow was the first person to help them. Not many people know this doctor. When he died, little attention is paid. I am amazed to read her story. The lack of awards does not make Dr. Barlow stopped serving.
Jesus criticised those who show off goodness so admired person (paragraph 2). The service should be addressed to our heavenly father who gave the wages (paragraph 1b, 4b). Is he the only one who deserves to be the spotlight, transferred through our service (see also Matthew 5: 16).
Richard Foster in his book Celebration of Discipline, to distinguish between true and false-service. Artificial service is done through human effort, demanding physical reward, and will stop when it was no longer the advantages that can be gained. The true service of God proceeds from his perkenan, prioritising, and survive as an everyday lifestyle. Let's check our services. Are we really doing it for God? Will we remain faithful even though not appreciated people? -WIS.
