TRUE REMORSE

Read: Matthew 27:1-10

When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse... ...Then he went away and hanged himself. (Matthew 27:3,5)

Bible in a year: Psalm 73, 77-78

Have you ever felt guilt and remorse after doing something half dead? I quite often experience. Often a sense of regret that my grip was so strong throughout the day so I can not do anything else. I am ashamed and angry at themselves and usually do not want to see anyone. In fact, once thought to disappear from this world.

I think that is also felt by Judas after selling Jesus (verse 3). Sorry. However, it seems to regret (Greek: metamellomai) does not guarantee the existence of repentance. Drowning in remorse, he had gone out to hang himself (verse 5). Maybe he was too ashamed to go back and admit guilt to the other disciples. He lost the opportunity to receive God's forgiveness. Contrast with Peter who wept for his sins, but then again follow the Lord (see chapter 26:75, John 21). In another passage called Judas sorrow sorrow of the world (see 2 Corinthians 7:10). Center is the self. Meanwhile, the grief that according to the will of God "produces repentance". The word repentance in Greek is metanoia, which means changing your mind or turn away from sin.

It's better if we realize our mistakes and regrets. However, do not let regret make we can not continue living like Judas. Come to the Lord in his honest confession. Look for the spiritually mature partner to assist in the process. Metanoia. Leave the sins and begin a new chapter with the Lord. - ELS
