Read: 1 Corinthians 1:10-17
I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. (1 Corinthians 1:10)
Bible in a year: 1 Chronicles 3-5
Disputes within the community of believers? "Ah, it's amazing," says a friend. Church of God did not consist of the angels, but the sinners who are forgiven? Yeah, right. However, if the dispute is not resolved, especially the split produced, does not that sad?
Community of believers at Corinth also had disputes (paragraphs 11-12). Paul advises them: Unite! Unity like what Paul meant? In the original language the word "same mind one accord" is the one in the nous [mind] and gnome [ratio]. So, Paul is not saying: "Okay, okay you disagree, it is important you get along with each other." Instead, Paul urged them to use reason and ratios to understand the truth. Tastes and interests of individuals or groups should be subdued under the truth. This is in line with the advice of Paul in his letter to the other (see Romans 15:5-6, Ephesians 4:1-6, 13). Church unity must be based on what is right for the congregation with one voice to glorify God.
Is there a difference of opinion within your community? Let's sit down together and seek God's guidance. Please provide the clarity of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God, what is right and pleasing to Him. If our opinions are wrong, we humbly confess and align yourself with God's Word. If our opinions are right, stay humble and lovingly embrace the associates who made a mistake, maybe next time it is we who need to be straightened out. - ELS
