This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed (1 Corinthians 4:1)
Bible in a year: Genesis 48-50
How does it feel if someone who calls or treat you with the title "servant"? In the Bible, "servant" comes from the word doulos which means "slave", which does not have any rights in his life unless he redeemed the person or acquitted by a generous employer. Christ called his followers as his disciple and friend, not a servant (see John 13:35; 15:15). However, he modeled his own life as a servant, and teach the students how it should behave as a servant (see John 13:1-20, Luke 17:7-10)
The Apostle Paul often calls himself himself and his friends as servants of Christ (see Romans 1:1; Titus 1:1; Philippians 1:1), just as we read today. Not a tone of sadness or compulsion, but with pride, because God entrusted to their important tasks (verse 1). In the Corinthian church disputes (see chapter 3), Paul did not boast a great leader. Not the assessment of people who mattered to him, but judgments of God (verses 3-4). Why? Because she is his servant.
How we view ourselves before God? The awareness that we are slaves of sin that has been redeemed by Christ should flood our hearts with gratitude and love to Him who has freed us. Encourages us to live every day not to please others but to please the owner lives. Like Paul, we are proud known as servants of Christ - ACH
