love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5:44)
Bible in a year: Mark 14-16
On August 4, 1987, Carlina White, 19 days old, was abducted by a woman who is posing as a nurse at Harlem Hospital, New York. As a child, he was often beaten. So, as a teenager, White is suspicious that Pettway was the true biological mother. Especially when "the mother" refused to provide his birth certificate, when she was going to make driver's license. Now, the mystery unfolds and the kidnapper is undergoing FBI investigation.
When Joy White, Carlina's biological mother reunited with her daughter in 2010, she said: "I want Pettway suffered as I have for 23 years." However, is it really Joy White can be satisfied and happy when the kidnapper severely punished? She's been suffering for 23 years, but should not all pain was gone and replaced with abundant happiness and gratitude for God to restore her daughter? That's how most people measure of justice, namely the law of "eye for eye, tooth for tooth" (verse 38). Even revenge can cover the kindness and love of God that still apply to her.
However, someone who has experienced God's grace will be enabled to see how the hand of God work for him. That way, he did not repay evil with evil as well, but to love enemies and pray for him (verses 39, 44). It's not easy. Human strength alone could not do it. That's why we need heavenly powers, namely the touch of God's love, so that we can show the attitude of the Father's children (v. 45): does not hold grudges and do not reply to all bad things to satisfy the heart - SST
