COMMENSURATE WITH REPENTANCE

Read: 1 John 3:1-10

All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. (1 John 3:3)

Bible in a year: Matthew 22-24

Communism does not believe in the existence of heaven and eternity. However, the communist government in Russia promises the emergence of a new generation of noble human character. By ignoring all eternity as the impetus, could they achieve? The collapse of communism after several decades later has revealed its ugliness. Instead of the rise of the "New Socialist Man", the average Soviet citizen would rather spend money to get drunk rather than helping children in need.

Josef Tson, minister of Romania, underlines the point: "They have no motivation to do good. They saw that the world is entirely material, only those who hurry and grabbed for himself, which could have something. Why should they deny themselves and honestly? What is the motivation that can be offered to them to live a life that is useful for others? "

The failure of communism has became a lesson about the importance of the perspective of eternity in undergoing repentance. Metanoia, the Greek word for repentance, referring to the renewal of mind that leads to a change of action to benevolence. Without the awareness of eternity, repentance be like traveling without motivation and without purpose. People easily discouraged in the middle of the road. Point of view of eternity arouse our repentance. If we believe in immortality, is our lives show repentance and commensurate change? Because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning (v. 9) - ARS
