We will definitely have a hard time pleasing someone if we do not know what they like. It will be easier if we know their hobbies, favorite foods, favorite colors, or the type of music they like to listen to. Of course, this information can be obtained if we have a close relationship with them or through someone who is very close to them. Thus, we can more easily choose what actions to take to please them.

The same principle also applies in our relationship with God. How can we know what He likes and what He hates? Thankfully, God is not an unreachable person, so we have to guess His heart. Instead, He is a God who reveals Himself to His people. He wants us to know Him intimately. He is a God who likes faithful love. He likes people who show kindness and compassion to others. That is His nature.

That is why He sent the Prophet Hosea to rebuke the people of Israel for their faithful love 'like the morning mist, like the dew that goes early away' (verse 4). They had forsaken the Lord, committed various sins against others, even though they remained faithful in offering sacrifices in their routine worship. God emphasizes that He desires repentance from His people. He does not want various religious ceremonies without a truly longing heart to know Him. This should be a warning and a reminder for us so that we too can do what pleases God.
