Baca: 2 Chronicles 33:1-20
Bacaan tahunan: 2 Kings 12-14
There are people who are labeled as "evil". It means that person has done bad deeds. Perhaps he insults, slanders, or deceives others. Then, there are also people who are labeled as "very evil". "Very" indicates a higher level of evilness. Perhaps he deceives, persecutes, or even kills others. Evil people are avoided, let alone those who are very evil.
The people of Judah seemed to experience a dark period during the reign of King Manasseh. Manasseh did evil acts, namely worshiping idols (verse 3). Not only that, he practiced divination, sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He even sacrificed his own children as burnt offerings (verse 6). All of these actions grieved the Lord. Manasseh can be categorized as a very evil king. The story of Manasseh is recorded in the books of 2 Kings and 2 Chronicles. Thankfully, from one of those books we find a relieving end! Manasseh, the king of Judah, repented. In a desperate situation when attacked by the king of Assyria, he humbled himself before the Lord (verse 12). Manasseh acknowledged that the Lord is God (verse 13).
The story of Manasseh proclaims hope for a relieving end for a person with corrupt behavior. A very evil person can repent. Perhaps there are people we love who have done very evil things. Do not lose hope because they can still change. Perhaps we ourselves have done very evil things. Do not lose heart because there is still a chance for us to improve. Never give up on sharing the Gospel with very evil people because they can still be saved. --LIN/www.renunganharian.net
FOR VERY EVIL PEOPLE, THERE IS STILL HOPE FOR REPENTANCE AS LONG AS THERE IS BREATH IN LIFE.
