Baca: EXODUS 17:1-7
Bacaan tahunan: 2 Kings 9-11
The Israelites immediately grumbled against the Lord when they were thirsty at Rephidim. They also blamed Moses for bringing them out of Egypt. Even though they had seen many miracles from the Lord, they still doubted the presence of the Lord when faced with difficulties. They even boldly tested the Lord by saying, 'Is the Lord among us or not?' (verse 7).
The attitude of the Israelites clearly shows that their faith was not only immature, but also not rooted. They believed in the Lord when things were easy, but quickly faded when difficulties arose. Their faith tended to depend on the situation and easily wavered, even though the Israelites were God's chosen people themselves.
Salvation in Christ is a gift, a lavish expression of God's grace. However, there is a part that the people must do as a response. Nevertheless, true faith can only be born from an awareness of the greatness of God's love. There is a willingness to listen and understand the word of the Lord. We cannot claim to have faith if it is merely inherited or based on tradition. Faith must grow because the word of God opens our hearts and minds so that we know His truth and choose to believe personally. Of course, this is inseparable from the work of the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, there must be an awareness of sin and the need for salvation that drives us to repent and surrender our lives to the Lord. It is a heart that is willing to be transformed, not just involved in religious rituals. --EBL/www.renunganharian.net
TRUE FAITH IS NOT JUST INHERITANCE, BUT A CONSCIOUS CHOICE THAT EMERGES FROM SEARCHING, UNDERSTANDING, AND DEEP CONVICTION.
