Baca: LUKE 15:11-24
Bacaan tahunan: 1 Samuel 1-3
In that dirty and smelly pigsty, the youngest son realized his condition. Even when he wanted to eat the pig's food scraps, no one gave him anything. He was truly destitute. Then he remembered his father, whom he had left, and whose inheritance he had wasted. He longed for home. He remembered his father's hired servants who always had an abundance of food. However, he came to his senses. He had hurt his father so much. He only hoped that he could be accepted as one of his father's hired servants. When he had nothing else to hope for, it was his father's mercy that he hoped for.
Turns out he was wrong. He didn't receive scolding. Not harsh words or judgmental curses from his father. Instead, it was an embrace full of longing. A tight hug and a kiss full of love. His dignity was restored. He was welcomed with a feast. Celebrated with joy. And he truly realized, he was not worthy of it all. Not worthy at all. After all the evil, sins, transgressions, and defilement he had committed, he truly did not deserve all that goodness.
Yes, that's how the grace we receive from God is described. Truly unworthy, and will never be worthy enough. As sinners, we should be punished and destroyed. However, when we come to Him in faith, He welcomes us and makes us His beloved children. His love has been proven through Christ's sacrifice for our redemption. We just need to come to Him in faith. It is His acceptance that makes us worthy to be His children. --HT/www.renunganharian.net
AS SINNERS, WE ARE NEVER WORTHY BEFORE GOD, ONLY HIS GRACE MAKES US HIS CHILDREN.
