ACCORDING TO IDENTITY

Baca: JOHN 1:1-18

Bacaan tahunan: 1 Samuel 4-8

John begins his Gospel by affirming Jesus' identity as the Word. In the beginning, the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In the Word, there is power that gives life to all creatures. And the power of life is like light that illuminates the hearts of humans. Jesus is the Word who became human. Therefore, He is the Light and Life. By following Jesus, we receive the source of Life and Light. Our identity then becomes children of God from the Divine source.

The grace of becoming children of God should be welcomed by living according to our identity. Accepting Jesus as King, no longer living in the mentality of a servant, but as individuals who have received power from the Lord. Not power in the sense of physical strength, but receiving a new identity in an intimate relationship with the Father. This relationship gives us an inheritance in eternal hope, true peace, and the power to live in the Spirit. And by the Spirit, we have the power to reject sin, love enemies, forgive sincerely, face trials with faith, and become salt and light to the world.

With the identity as children of God, we become ambassadors of the Kingdom of God. We become messengers to introduce the Father through our way of life in love, truth, forgiveness, and loyalty. For receiving the power to become children of God elevates us, acknowledges us, equips us, and calls us to reflect the Father through a lifestyle and divine mission. --EBL/www.renunganharian.net
