PRIORITIZING GOD

Baca: HAGGAI 2:16-20

Bacaan tahunan: Romans 14-16

What do we pay the most attention to in life? God, others, or even ourselves? Are we aware that what we pay the most attention to in life is what we prioritize? Therefore, it is good for us to look at ourselves, reflect, and try to correct ourselves, if perhaps we have been wrong in directing our lives.

Paying attention is a repeated message that God conveys in His word. "Consider your ways," so says the Lord referring to the condition before and after the stones of the house of God were laid. Before the house of God was rebuilt, everything they did would be in ruins. God punished them because instead of thinking about His house, they were thinking about themselves by prioritizing their own house and garden (Haggai 1:4-6). God also invited them to pay attention to their condition after the house of God began to be rebuilt, even in a condition where they had nothing. In that emptiness, God actually gave blessings. God rebuked those who only thought about themselves when they still had possessions. By giving emptiness, indeed God invited them to remember who and where they got their lives from, and truly prioritize God in their lives.

No matter how great our strength is, we are humans who are full of limitations. Therefore, let us prioritize God in our lives, because God gives us life by pouring out His blessings.
