Baca: Habakkuk 2:1-5
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1)
Bacaan tahunan: Zephaniah 1-3
Rabbi Simlai in the third century records that Moses delivered 365 prohibitions and 248 orders. David in Psalm 15 shortened to eleven. Isaiah 33:14-15 distill them into six. Micah 6:8 makes it three, and Habakkuk conclude to only one principle, namely "but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness" (Habakkuk 2:4).
God's Word come when Habakkuk comes to seek God, waiting for an answer to the complaint (Habakkuk 1). God answered with a vision, a promise of liberation from the oppression of the Chaldeans and the coming of the Messiah (Habakkuk 2-3). Because the vision is still awaiting its fulfillment, there are those who ignore it. However, the righteous will look forward to live by his faith or disbelief.
What is faith? Why is faith considered the essence of our obedience to God? Habakkuk 2:4 is quoted three times in the New Testament (Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38) to assert the doctrine of justification by faith. Faith, according to the author of Hebrews, contains two sides. First, faith go hand in hand with hope. Same base, namely a strong belief that God will carry everything that He promised in Christ. Second, faith shows on our spiritual eyes to the things which can not be seen by physical eyes. Faith is welcomed with all heart that all the word of God is holy, righteous and good. Further, faith encourages us to apply the word with all our energy. Do we await the fulfillment of the promise God's word and live by faith? - ARS
