Baca: John 4:1-24
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. (John 4:23)
Bacaan tahunan: Numbers 35-36
A Samaritan woman is a prostitute who is most likely involved a conversation with the Lord Jesus. Interestingly he showed an interest in spiritual matters by asking about the proper place of worship (v. 20). Whether for fun or just because it has long existed in his mind, the conversation took him to the true knowledge of God.
Jesus did not mention a specific place. He was more interested in teaching about the true worship, that worship in spirit and in truth (verses 23-24). Jesus went on to explain his intentions. We worship in spirit, because God is Spirit. Our spirits were created to hang out with his Creator, so that our relationship with God is more important than ritual or liturgy; more important than a matter of place, time or physical things. We also have to worship in truth. We must learn from the Word of God about who and what God we worship, instead of creating the image of God according to what we want to own.
Often we prefer to be in one camp. Whether in camp that emphasizes the warmth of a relationship with God, but God defines the meaning of its own, or in the camp that emphasizes the importance of the knowledge of God without ever building a warm relationship with Him. Let intimacy with God encourages us to get to know him. And, let us a deeper understanding of God will continue to warm our friendship with Him. - PBS
