EMPEROR PENGUIN'S LOVE

Baca: 1 John 3:11-18

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3:18)

Bacaan tahunan: Revelation 16-19

Emperor penguins lay eggs one grain each breeding season. The males incubate the eggs served with him pinned in between the legs and the folds of fat around his stomach for about 64 days. He is in a large collection of male penguins huddle together to warm in the middle of the Antarctic winter. Meanwhile, the female returned to the sea to find food. She will return to the nest before hatch. If she is late, the male can feed her child with a backup that was taken from the digestive tract for up to ten days. That would make him lose half his body weight. Once the females appear, turn the male goes to sea. Next they take turns foraging for child rearing.

The life of polar birds illustrates that love is not a concept or a mere sweet words. Love is a verb. True love is expressed through action that promotes the welfare of others, even if necessary at the expense of personal interests. As Christ gave His life for us, we were ordered to lay down our lives for our brothers.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words (Actions speak louder than words). Love is not enough simply expressed by words, but must be realized in deed. The extent to which our actions express our love for our brothers and sisters? Are we generous gave us time, effort, talent, money for the brothers and sisters who need help? - ARS
