People who have recovered from alcoholism or illegal drugs will usually look at things with a more vigilant. They know the danger. Dare to try it is stupid. It is just the submitters for controlled substances that damage.
Paul also warned believers in Rome not to act stupid, gives you the opportunity to sin to control their lives. Sin was defeated by the death and resurrection of Christ (v. 6-11). The real Sin had no more power over the people who believe in Christ, except that guy gave himself up, letting her body members serve the desires that are not true (verses 12-13). Desire can seem harmless, don't we always want good things for yourself? That's the trick of sin. It seems nice and fun, but it is actually misleading (compare Eph. 4: 17-22).
Let's be vigilant! He told of sin can start things that seem trivial. Of necessity the break could be a sloth when it conquered sin. From the need to eat and drink that could be gluttony or addiction. Of financial, sexual needs, entertainment, education, and much more. Let check myself: whether we're handing over members of our body's brain, eyes, ears, tongue, hands, feet, voice, sexual organs, and others to serve SIN? With the power of her own, no human being can be free from the power of sin. However, every believer can look at what God has done through Christ and said "no" in the face of sin. -ELS
