Baca: PSALM 121
Bacaan tahunan: Ephesians 4-6
A worker shares his life situation: Every day he passes through chaotic streets, faces work pressures, and lives in a strange world. Often he feels afraid, afraid of making mistakes, afraid of failing, afraid of not being able to survive. Until one night, he read Psalm 121, "The Lord will keep you from all harm - He will watch over your life." He was strengthened that in his fear, there is a God who watches over him.
Psalm 121 is part of the pilgrimage songs, sung by the Israelites as they journeyed to Jerusalem. In the dangerous journey, the psalmist reminded that their help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth (v. 2), and that the Lord watches over every step they take. Verse 8 is a closing assurance that the Lord watches over their "coming and going", an expression that describes all activities of life, both at the beginning and at the end. This assurance is not only for the present, but forever.
Many of us are afraid to step out and worry about what lies ahead. However, today we are reminded that the most important thing is not where we step, but who we step with. If the Lord walks with us, we are assured that no step is in vain, no journey is too heavy to bear because He promises to watch over and accompany us, from start to finish.
